Ad Creative Automation
Also known as: creative automation
Using templates and data to generate many ad variants quickly.
Creative automation is what turns a catalog and a set of design rules into a firehose of platform-native ads. It doesn't replace ideation — it replaces the manual grind of resizing, relabeling, and re-exporting the same idea 40 different ways.
Definition
Ad creative automation combines master templates, brand rules, and structured data (product feed, copy variables) to produce hundreds of platform-native creative variants without manual design work per ad.
Why it matters
It's the only way to sustain the volume modern platforms need — Meta, TikTok, and Reels all reward creative velocity, and manual production hits a wall around 20 assets a week per designer.
What automation actually does
Modern automation systems bind three inputs: (1) a template that expresses the design rules (grid, type, safe zones, motion); (2) structured data from the product feed and copy bank; (3) a routing rule for which template applies to which product or audience. The output is DPA and static/video assets ready for Meta, TikTok, Pinterest, and CTV.
Where it fits in Creative Ops
Automation is the production stage of the Creative Ops loop: brief → concept → produce → ship → learn. Brief and concept still need humans; production, resizing, and localisation should be automated so designers spend their time on the next winner, not on this week's 12 aspect ratio exports.
